Thanks McJeepers and Lono

Being an informed gamer is a pleasure and a curse. On one hand, I can make a better informed decision about the games that I buy and not buy bad games. On the other hand, I feel very snobbish for boycotting games that I have a problem with. For instance, I think boycotting Battlefield: Bad Company is the right thing to do, no matter what the game scored on reviews, I think that making a point about them charging for weapons (which they aren't doing anymore) is something they should NEVER contemplate ever again. Just wait, in about a year or so, EA will try to pull the same stunt again. But there is also the case of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith. I love the Guitar Hero games, but spending $60 on a game that has only 41 songs, no improved game play, and songs that I really only half-way like isn't a good idea for me. Now if the game were $30 or even $40, I would have picked it up in a minute. Being an informed gamer leads to this. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? You tell me.

Episode 7 of Geezer Radio is now up and ready for everyone to listen too. McJeepers was the Geezer Co-Host and Lono, from the Sarcastic Gamer podcast and website, was the celebrity co-host. Let me just say that now, I fear Jeeps kicking me out of the GGSE because times inside of Ep 7, Lono and I completely ignore him and just talk.

I ignored a co-workers advice and started to read "Generation Kill" instead of book 5 of the Star Wars Legacy of the Jedi series. So far, the "GK" is decent.

  1. Add me to the list of people that would've bought GH: Aerosmith if it were $40 or less. I'm just not paying $60 for just a bunch more songs.

I'm starting to keep an eye on Civilization: Revolution, though. I'm wondering if a "change of pace" in games for me would help my current slump.

  2. Yeah, I totally agree on GH:A, it's an expansion pack at full retail price, which is a huge mistake. On the other hand, it'll make a good rental or bargain bin pick-up a year from now.

We could go on for days about EA & BF:BC, but I'll say this. The reason why Lono and the rest of SG have no problem picking up the game, even after their boycott, is because they recognize that it's still a great game. By not buying the game, sure you may be making a statement to EA by not giving them your money; but you're also penalizing yourself by depriving you of what could be a great game. I enjoyed the beta, but I'm waiting to see what kind of geezer impact it has before picking it up. It doesn't look to be that big of a GG hit, and it sounds like it has some bugs in it (e.g. voice chat).

So just think about it Jedi, maybe go and rent it or something. That way you're not giving money to EA, but Blockbuster. :-) Or buy it used. EA won't see that cash either! There's nothing to brag about when you say you don't buy EA games. You're just depriving yourself of games you might potentially really enjoy.

That's just my two cents. I'm going to go play Burnout Paradise. :-P

  3. Good points Mojo. I'm not boycotting ALL EA games, just BF:BC. Burnout Paradise, Madden and other key EA titles, I just don't care about.

I look forward to a day when an EA game is top on my list to buy. But of the six games that I want that are coming out this year, not a one is an EA game.
