Two more days until the MEET AND GREET!!!!!

Okay, That Was Interesting

Okay, so last night didn't go as planned. I started off sitting outside of a local gamestore at 6:30. I sat there alone for what seemed like forever, while people walked in and out of the store, just looking at me and wondering what I was doing. One woman asked me if I was going to do an iCast...not sure what that was. I assumed she meant podcast, and I nodded. Then she asked me what my wife thought of me doing that, and I responded, "she's bringing me dinner later". The woman couldn't believe it and walked off into the night. No one else showed up in line until around 9:30 that night. At that time, I started my podcast, but sounded like a complete moron because it was just me rambling on for 30 minutes. I tried to get ReaperGrrl on the phone, and I did get her voicemail (which I recorded) but I didn't speak to her until after I shut my computer off (the battery was low). So, I trashed the podcast (I didnt get rid of it) and I will try and do something tonight. At around 10:30, everyone started to trickle in and by the time the game went on sale at 12:01, there were around 120 people there. So it was a successful launch for the game, but a lousy podcast.

To make the long story short, it was a cold, rainy, and lonely night for me.

Way Too Busy

This past weekend was a blur. After spending 90% of it getting my house ready for the market, the wife and I finally did put it on the market. Now, we just have to wait and see. Tonight will be another busy night, as we will be going to look at a house that we want to purchase, then I have to go to a local game store to stand in line all night. I might do a mid-night sale podcast, my first but it might not get published for a little while. Here is how the rest of this week will be for me.

Monday - looking at a house and probably putting a contract on that house. Then it's off to the mid-night sale where I might be able to do a podcast live, from there.
Tuesday - nothing planned, but I'm sure something will come up.
Wednesday - again, nothing planned, but I'm sure something will come up.
Thursday - preparing for the meet and greet in GA. I will be taking down the 360, and packing it into my car, and then going to sleep real early.
Friday - driving to Ga with Spark and most likely DustySmash.

Major Nelson and Tidbits

Since the latest podcast is out and so is the secret, I guess that I can go into the who, what, when, where and why this happened. I'll start at the beginning.

The day that Spark and I recorded Episode 3, I sent a request for Major Nelson to come onto Geezer Radio. Anticipating a negative response, I forgot about the message and figured that if it was meant to be, then it was meant to be. The next day, I got an e-mail from Major saying send him an e-mail at his private e-mail address with the request. I then composed an eloquent e-mail telling him how much I loved his podcast, and that we wanted him on ours and that we all liked him because he was a man of the people (I was trying to be as nice and complimenting as possible, because I didn’t want him to say no). I also promised him no ambushing and no rumor gathering...which I think we broke, but we tried to be nice about it. His response was "Okay, let's do it."

The next day I composed another lengthy letter requesting a time and again saying how wonderful we all thought he was. He again said, “Okay, let’s do this.” So, over the weekend, I nervously checked my e-mail every other minute, watching for that one piece of e-mail saying the when and where of everything, which never came. On Monday, he sent me an e-mail asking if I got his last e-mail. Me, not realizing that when he re-sent me the “Okay, let’s do this” he included on that e-mail the time that he could do it: Wednesday, April 16, at 3:30 his time (Pacific Time). So, I agreed that that would be a good time. Later that day, he said that that week wouldn’t be good for him after all, and that the next week at the same time would probably be better, so we rescheduled.

This past Monday, the wife and I decided to put the house up for sale, and there was a lot that needed fixing. So, as it happened to be, Wednesday was the day for painting. I wasn’t happy; because the Major Nelson interview was something I had been looking forward too since before our podcast got started. Anyway, I managed to get out of painting because of the situation (which my wife has yet to let me forget about). So, Wednesday came around and the work day was a blur because all I could think about was getting an e-mail from Major Nelson, cancelling our interview...which never happened.

With my house being painted, the interview had to be moved from the Jedi Temple to Jedi’s mothers house (Spark’s wife vetoed it happening at his house, because of how their house wasn’t fully moved into yet.) At 5:30 (our time), Spark and I got to the location of the interview. And that was that.

Some tidbits that Spark and I cut from the interview. Major Nelson cut two intros, and the one you hear on the podcast was the second one. After the podcast ends, Major, Spark and I talked about doing future podcasts but didn’t mention specific dates, so we’ll see what happens. The phone call that we got in the middle of the interview was my wife asking me what type of paint we should get.

The reason we kept this secret was for two reasons, we wanted to be free to ask him what questions we wanted to ask and didn’t want to be inundated with PMs asking us to ask certain questions. The second reason, we wanted everyone to be surprised that we actually got him on our podcast. I hope you enjoyed it.

15 Minutes 'Till Fame

I really don't have much to FEATURE in my blog today. I do want to announce that the big interview is looking like it will happen tonight. I hope to have it posted ready for download by Friday, but that's something that Mudhog will have to take care of. I will give you A giant hint as to who it is. This person actually responded to my request for an XBOX interview. One out of three ain't bad. In baseball, that's considered pretty darn good! Who know's, after I post it, I might be a CELEBRITY. And the same with Spark. We go to a Meet and Greet and Kotaku blog's about it...in my dreams!

Rolling the Eyes

ALSO, I am getting the itch to do another episode of Geezer Radio. OUR timetable to get this done this week is very small, and NEXT episode might not be a full episode, but might just include an update on what will be happening over the next few weeks. Tom Salta, A.K.A. TeeBone has yet to yeld to our request for an INTERVIEW. The Frag Dolls and Socom developers have also ignored us. I guess that we WILL have to wait and see what happens over the next couple of weeks. I want us to interview some big names, but they aren't returning my e-mails. So depressing.

Jack and Jill Looked at a House

SO, me and the wife looked and found what amounts to the town house of our dreams. Three bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, 1300+ square feet, end unit with a back yard shadded porch. Everything we want in a house is what this house is in this house. My brother-in-law said that he wouldn't charge us the commission if we buy that house, because me and the wife did all the leg work. As for selling the house...well, we need to have it on the market by the end of the week in order to put a contract out on the other one. So, the wife and I need to BE on the ball about getting the house in order. We also need to make SURE our finances are in order, TO get pre-approved for a loan.

This weekend was a nightmare, but I did get a lot done. I look forward to keeping you updated on the events, but can no longer assure you that I will be updating the Blog on a daily basis. I will try to get it out so that you can DRINK in my life, but nothing is guaranteed at this time.

But I will be doing my best to make appearances on XBL and the Episodes of Geezer Radio will continue to come down the pipe.

Waiting

Yesterday, I sent pm's, e-mails to several different people/groups requesting interviews for Geezer Radio, and I haven't heard back from any of them at all. So far the Frag Dolls and the makers of SOCOM haven't returned my messages. Oh, well. Maybe today will bring the message that results in an interview that makes us famous.

PlayStation Network Experience

I finally got some PlayStation multiplayer fun last night. I enjoyed it...after all the trouble that I went through to get on. There is a reason that the PSN is free...no one, especially not me, would pay for that horrid service. For the experience that I have between XBL and PSN, I’ll prefer and am willing to pay for XBL in a heart beat! Here is how it went.

First, I loaded the game I bought from the PlayStation Online Store. Instead of having an Xbox type of experience of just booting up the game and starting to play, I selected Warhawk and had to go through a lengthy installation process. What? I have never had to install a Xbox Live Arcade game before. So the installation finishes after five minutes. Then I hit play, and all of a sudden, auto-updates. That takes another few minutes. So, I finally get that installed and then I install the Omega Pack, which takes ANOTHER few minutes. When all of that is done, I then hop into the game and I am met with a Accept/Decline buttons for their terms of service!?!? Another experience I have never had on XBL.

So, I accept all of that and then try and get Medic8er to send me a game invite...that is not possible on the PSN. I have to search the servers that are up and then find the right one, and then type a password. That all took 20 minutes. So after all that I was playing multiplayer on the PS3, but that wasn’t the end of the problems. The next problem that I had was that I couldn’t talk to Medic8er. I had my Bluetooth headset on and flashing. And I couldn’t hear him. What turned out to be the problem was that after you get into the game, you have to enable the headset to send and receive sound. After this, I have a whole new appreciation for playing on Xbox Live.

Who to Interview

With the next podcast very close, as in today, hopefully, I wanted to hear feedback on who you all would like us to interview. I will be starting a thread on the Geezer Radio forum asking everyone to submit someone they would like us to interview. And it can be anyone. But please be understanding that we can't just call up someone like Peter Moore of EA or Cliffy B of Epic and request an interview and actually get one. So, I want to hear you opinions!

Doh!!!

I was reading my Twitter feed and enjoying the conversations, when I noticed Mojo saying that he was addicted to the chai at Starbuck’s. That got me to thinking. First off, let me say, I don’t drink caffeine at all. No coffee, no coke, no pepsi. I only drink soft -drinks with no caffeine and have been doing so since August 2001. The very last time since then that I have had a massive influx of caffeine was on October 14th, 2006 (the day I got married [you know you would do the same thing for your wedding night]). Anyway, Starbucks is the very last place that I would want to go, but not because of caffeine. I am scarred to death of ordering a soda from them because when I get to the counter, I get so nervous. Why, because you always have at least five people behind me and I get this feeling that they will kill me if I don’t order in less than 30 seconds.

Imagine if I had to order a coffee or moca-chino or a low fat caramel makiati. If the sales person asked me something beyond those two things, I would then get this face of ‘OMG!!! What else?’ and then...I start to panic and sweat. That’s when I break down and run for the exit. So, no Starbucks for me!

Scatterbrained

I finished Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 and boy was it a fun game! I love it so much that I have started the original Rainbow Six: Vegas. I continue to pound away at the campaign banging my head against the wall inching forward every half to full hour or so. On the hardest difficulty, it is BRUTAL, just like Vegas 2.

The podcast page that is being hosted by Mudhog and Clan LMB has been updated to include a picture of SparkStalker and myself. I hope you enjoy it. Also, Xbox and podcast related, Major Nelson hasn’t had a podcast in two weeks. When will he get back on the ball?

My wife hates the video game that she was really wanting, and now I have a game to return when I pick up GTA IV, which I pre-ordered yesterday. I hear they are doing a mid-night sale for GTA IV. I wouldn’t mind doing this one, but would my wife mind...or would my wife like to join me? Well, I might find out tonight or tomorrow. The odd thing is that at first, I had no interest in GTA IV, but once I heard about the multiplayer aspects of the game, I know that I have to play it.

Oi!

Does anyone else here really dislike their boss? Mine is a very understanding boos, but she can’t ever be wrong or can’t ever let anyone have the last word. Today I told her that I sent her an e-mail instead of the whole company because I didn’t want it to get out to everyone. I told her this, and she was quick to tell me how to proceed. I looked at her with wonderment and said “I know, I was going to do that, I just wanted to tell you that I wanted you and only you to see the e-mail.” She nodded, and then explained to me the procedures that I needed to perform, again. I repeated with a respectful voice, and said, “Yeah, I understand that, but I was just saying that I didn’t want the whole company to see that.” She then went on to say, “Okay, but this is what you need to do...” I just looked at her and nodded. I walked out of her office and back to my desk, and then I just spent a half-hour rolling my eyes. Sometimes, I just wonder what she actually thinks about me.

Is anyone else getting really tired of the i prefixing different products? iPods, iPhone, iMove, iCall Recorder, iGoogle, iHateCongress...okay I made the last one up, but still, I have a feeling that companies are now looking at the lower case i and they are thinking that if they put that in front of their product, then they will look kool and people will buy it. What if companies thought that having cool spelled with a K instead of a C would attract people to their product. (By the way, in case you missed it or you thought that I was stuped (he, he), I did spell cool with a K on purpose and see what happened? A palindrome occured.) Can someone explain it too me?

Getting Used to New Technology

Let me just say that I am not a Microsoft Fanboy, but I own a Zune, Vista Laptop, and Xbox 360. The reason I have these is becuase it's what I am comfortable with and used to. I mean, how often do you buy something $300 or higher if you are taking a shot in the dark on whether you might like it or not? I don't like taking that kind of a chance. But recently, I have been breaking that tradition. In Febuary, I bought (shh) a PS3, mostly for the Bluray feature, but also for games. I haven't used the gaming functionality much, but the Bluray, I am enjoying too much. But yesterday, instead of breaking out my 360 controller and hopping onto Xbox Live (XBL) I turned on my PS3 and put in Rachet and Clank. I actually liked this game. It was fun, amusing and new! I didn't get very far, but I didnt have a lot of time. I did try to talk with my friends on the PSN (I an Overlord for the only PlayStation Clan: The UnderGround) but couldn't get with them. Although they do now have online play, their functionality is no where near what XBL is. But it is different and new.

Also in the theme of trying something new, I have started having the urge to buy a Mac Mini computer. I talked with King yesterday and he said that a Mac is wonderful and coming from him (he's a Windows Developer) is a BIG statement. I mostly want it for podcasting, video and photo editing, but the alure of getting something that is out of my norm, is powerful.

EscapePod is Starting to Rock
I have been listening to EscapePod for a couple of weeks now, and I have to say that most of the stories are very interesting. Like King mentioned in his comment to my blog earlier, some of the stories are okay, some I don’t like and some I am in love with. I can never tell what I’m going to like and what I hate by the title, which is good. I tried to pick out one’s that sounded good, but that hasn’t worked out. Several of them, I have turned off in mid-story and others I listen to twice. I highly suggest subscribing to EscapePod if you like sci-fi. I love it and thank you King for introducing me to it!

Bluray = Beautiful
Most of you haven’t decided yet to upgrade to the next standard in DVD. I don’t blame you. It’s expensive if you have to buy a TV and a bluray player but if you do, my hat goes off to you. I absolutely love watching movies in HD. One recommendation, though. If you buy a Bluray player, whether it’s a PS3 or a stand alone, get the movies that are worth it. In other words, do not buy romantic comedies instead buy the blockbusters that have tons of special effects. They are the ones that make a bluray movie worth the money.
