Response to 100 to Nothing

Thanks for the responses. First of all, I had only read what was on FoxNews and never got to the details that appeared on my blog yesterday. I would like to say that, yes that does go a long way to explaining things further. But I would like to point out a couple of things.
1. The probable reason that the score went up to 100, which may be pointed out but I'm not aware of it, could be that the Ref's wouldn't call the game until that point.
2. The teams seemed pretty equal to me. No they weren't going to the pro's in 4 years, but they were there to play.
3. What is defined as "special needs". In high school, I was skinny, lanky and had asthma, but when I played basketball and when I lost big (which was often), I didn't ask for a forfeit, or complain. I accepted the loss as just that: a loss. There was no clause in PE that said asthma kids can't play sports.
Do I feel sorry for the group that lost, yes, but I still don't think the other kid should have been fired for doing his/her job. Nor do I think that the winning team should have to forfeit the game. Just my 2 cents.

There are routs, and then there is "routing" the opponent. You hit 100 and then stop, rubs me wrong.

  2. I read the article, and now I can agree with you that it was a little obsessive, but I still don't think they should have to forfeit and the coach shouldn't have been fired.

Should they have let up at 98, or 88. What would have been acceptable? Would 88-0 been fine? How about 89-0? Where do you draw the line in this ethics situation. I'll tell you where: you draw the line that the winning coach has. In other words, you draw the line at 100.

  3. I think the forfeit and firing were excessive, and I should have probably stated that in earlier responses.

It is the 100 number that sticks out. 116-0 or 89-0 and I might not have flinched. It is something about that round "hey, look at 100" number that bothers me.

That is also why I attached article. Routs happen. If they happen naturally, great. If they are "forced", then it is no good.

  4. I don't understand. So if they kept the pressure on and continued to score past 100, going up to 116, that would've been ok? But because they got to 100 and said "alright, we need to stop this," it's not?
